Born in Philadelphia, PA. 1930
Attended Hershey Industrial School, Hershey, PA. 1935
Studied and worked in the school printing shop during 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Graduated 5th in class of 95
Employed as printer's apprentice August 1947 to January 1948, printing pressman January 1948 to June 1948
Started at Crescent Ink & Color Co., Philadelphia, PA. as incoming raw materials quality control June 1948. Transferred to color matching/formulating department October 1948
Studied chemistry at Saint Joseph College night school for 3 years, 1950-52
Appointed to Head Color Matcher & Customer Service Department in 1952
Reformulated most of Crescent's litho and letterpress vehicles to be made by the dispersion process on a Cowles Dissolver
Formulated and serviced the first web heatset ink for Crescent, 1955
Accepted job of Vehicle Lab Manager at Lawter Chemicles, June 1960
Formulated the first successful Isophthalic alkyds ("Terlons") for printing inks, September 1960
Formulated the first web heatset vehicle based on substituded aluminum alcoholates ("Thermex vehicles"), Dec. 1962. Applied for patent and received initial patent and 3 improvements in following years
Many new ink vehicles developed each year. Grew Lawter's sales from 2.1 million dollars per year in 1960, to 230 million in 2003
Traveled to 31 countries from 1975 to 2000, assisting local sales people in presenting new products to customers, and learning about the customers' future needs and wishes
Promoted to Group Vice President in 1980, Senior Vice President in 1997
Retired from Lawter/Eastman, July 2003
