Lawter International, Inc. To Streamline Corporate Structure

  PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1998--Lawter International, Inc. (NYSE:LAW) will streamline the company's corporate structure with a realignment intended to expand product offerings and enhance the company's worldwide position as a leader and technical innovator in the specialty polymer industry.

Under the company's new organization, all officers will report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, John P. O'Mahoney, who joined the company in October 1977 and has served as Chief Executive Officer since January 1996.

In announcing the organizational changes, O'Mahoney stated, "It is an appropriate time to bring this blend of experience, skill and new ideas into senior management as Lawter continues its transformation as a growing company. We are all enthusiastic at the prospect of developing new market opportunities consistent with our long-established reputation as a quality standard-setter for our industry."

O'Mahoney announced that a number of Lawter executives will be promoted or moved into new roles. John Jilek has resigned as President and Director to pursue other opportunities. His duties will be assumed by Mr. O'Mahoney and members of the new management team.

Additions to the new management team will include:

1. Nathan L. Goodnow, 34, former Operations Manager of the Specialty

Chemical Division for BASF Corporation will join Lawter as Vice President of Operations, a newly created position, and will assume responsibility for the development of manufacturing strategies and processes to meet the market's needs and expand the company's business. Mr. Goodnow brings to the company extensive experience in chemical engineering and manufacturing.

2. Jack Baarends, 50, previously Director of Research and Development for Europe, was named Vice President of Research and Development.

Jack joined Lawter seven years ago from AKZO and has been instrumental in Lawter's growth through new product development in Europe in recent years. 3. Henry Brooks, 35, previously Sales Director for the U.S., was named Vice President of Sales for the Americas. Henry has been involved in various positions at Lawter over the last fourteen years and has led Lawter's sales to increased levels in the domestic market. 4. Hermann Bezuijen, 46, continues as European General Manager.

Hermann joined Lawter in December 1997 from Nevcin Polymers N.V. and continues to bring his diverse business experience, predominantly in the resin polymer industry, to contribute to Lawter's growth in the European marketplace.

5. Alex Nazari, 35, continues as Asia-Pacific General Manager

Alex joined Lawter eleven years ago and has contributed to Lawter in many roles; from Quality Control Chemist to successfully managing Lawter's Canadian operation, prior to taking on this challenging role in 1994.

6. Art Brendel, 42, Global Purchasing Manager, was named Vice President of Purchasing

Art joined Lawter 17 years ago, and in this new position, brings his broad knowledge and understanding of the U.S. market onto the global stage.

7. Ludwig P. Horn, 68, Vice President of Research and Development was named Senior Vice President.

Lud, who will remain involved in Research and Development, will also contribute to Lawter his vast knowledge and experience in areas critical to future company growth.
